$2 million to West Fernie Servicing and Restructure Upgrade Project

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) board of directors Sept. 2 approved over $2 million in funding for the West Fernie Servicing and Restructure Project.

One million dollars will come from the Community Works Fund, and $1 million will come from Electoral Area A’s portion of the Mine Tax Sharing funds.

The RDEK hopes to hear about the status of other infrastructure grant applications on the project in the coming weeks.

Two open houses and an information meeting have been scheduled for October to provide West Fernie residents with project information.

Area B groups offered opportunity to collect beverage containers

Community groups in Electoral Area B will be offered the opportunity to place receptacles at the Grasmere, Baynes Lake, Tie Lake and Elko Transfer Stations for the collection of bottles and cans. The move comes in an effort to reduce the number of recyclable beverage containers being thrown in the garbage in Area B.
