Secondary suites to be accommodated in Columbia Valley

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) board of directors Sept. 2 voted to move forward with zoning bylaw amendments to accommodate secondary suites in the Columbia Valley.

Currently, the Upper Columbia Valley Zoning Bylaw, which covers the unincorporated portions of Electoral Areas F and G, is the only zoning bylaw in the RDEK that does not routinely accommodate secondary suites within single family dwellings. It is anticipated that proposed amendments to the zoning bylaw regarding secondary suites will be presented to the public in the winter of 2012.

Letters of thanks to be sent

A letter of thanks will be sent to Lindsay Johnston of Fundamental Event Marketing who organized the fourth annual Ballfest at the Crossroads Ball Park. A total of $1,600 was raised and donated to the RDEK to be used for ballpark upgrades.

A letter of thanks will also be sent to the Windermere Community Association (WCA) for its recent donation of over $4,000 towards irrigation system upgrades at the Windermere Beach. The money was raised through the community’s bottle depot. The RDEK would like to thank the volunteers and everyone who donated bottles and cans to make this donation possible.
