New Radium Transfer Station opening in early July
The new Radium Hot Springs Transfer Station will be open to the public starting on July 2.
“In addition to the collection of household waste, this new transfer station will provide a convenient option for Radium and Electoral Area G residents to dispose of their waste and access a wide range of new recycling opportunities,” said Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) General Manager of Engineering and Environmental Services Kevin Paterson.
“Outside the addition of the already hugely successful Recycle BC Program, we will have a Household Hazardous Waste Depot and offer recycling for used oil, electronics, large household appliances, propane tanks, and batteries, as well as dedicated bins for the drop-off of green waste, metals, and wood waste.”
While the yellow bins currently situated around the region will remain in place, residents are encouraged to utilize the many new options for recycling at the transfer station once it is open.
“Recycle BC gives residents a chance to recycle paper and cardboard products, glass containers, a wide range of flexible plastics, white Styrofoam and coloured or printed Styrofoam,” added Paterson.
“Not only does this expand recycling options for residents, but the RDEK is paid by Recycle BC for those materials collected through the Recycle BC Program. By contrast, we pay for every tonne of material we collect through the Yellow Bin Program. Using the Recycle BC Program, saves taxpayers money.”
The transfer station will be open 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. seven days a week except for Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Remembrance Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Family Day.
The RDEK is launching an education campaign leading up to the opening of the new facility and staff will be on hand when the Transfer Station opens to answer questions and provide information.
