Early morning fire strikes Radium Park Lodge
Early this morning (August 22) Regional District of East Kootenay’s (RDEK) Columbia Valley Firefighters and Invermere Fire Rescue provided mutual aid to support the Radium Hot Springs Fire Department in response to a fire at Radium Park Lodge.
East Kootenay Emergency Management Program, along with Emergency Support Services volunteers, have established a reception centre at the Radium Hot Springs Centre (4863 Stanley Street) to provide services to the individuals and their pets that have been affected by this fire.
The RDEK stated on social media it is grateful to have such dedicated and well-trained teams that can come together at times like this.
Anyone displaced by the fire who are not able to make it to the Reception Centre can register at ess.gov.bc.ca or call 250-489-9677 for assistance.
Village of Radium Hot Springs Mayor Mike Gray noted this afternoon, “We are deeply grateful to these firefighters, to BC Ambulance, RCMP, BC Hydro, and to village staff who quickly opened the community hall to welcome displaced people.
“We are relieved to report that all people escaped the building safely. One individual was transported to Invermere Hospital by BC Ambulance as a precaution.
“An investigation into the cause of the fire will be undertaken, with the Radium Fire Department working together with the BC Office of the Fire Commissioner.
“Most importantly, many of the people affected by this fire are part of our community—they are our friends, our neighbours, and the workers who support our local businesses. We know this is a very difficult day for them. I encourage everyone who is able to offer support in the days ahead.
“On behalf of Council, I want to extend our thanks again to all the first responders and community members who stepped forward so quickly today.”
