‘Locals’ coffeehouse begins 33rd season
‘Locals’ coffeehouse began its 33rd season on September 28 with a lineup of well-known favourites Dave Prinn, Jamie Neve, Two Ticks, The Confluentials, Matthew Kidd and Erika, and rising young talent Pyper Standing. Marnee Bellevance emceed the program with her usual aplomb.
‘Locals’ is organized by volunteers who contribute their time and talents on sound, lights, stage, promotion and concessions. It provides a venue for local musicians and other artists to perform in front of a receptive audience, and proceeds from the six concerts are donated to local school music programs.
This year, Steeples Elementary, Kootenay Christian Academy, St. Mary’s and Mount Baker will receive substantial donations to support their music programs.
The November 8 ‘Locals’ will feature the Mount Baker Vocal Jazz Group under the direction of Evan Bueckert. The lineup also includes Jack Spring, The Chimes, Jack Lund, The Hyde Family and Chelsea Harris.
After organizing ‘Locals’ for many years, Lorraine Hagel is taking a well-deserved break. Anyone interested in performing, contact Wally Smith at [email protected].
Tickets are not sold at the door and are only available in advance at Huckleberry Books.
