Dynamiters second in KIJHL Power Rankings

The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) is pleased to announce its Power Rankings for Week 8.

The Princeton Posse had a perfect road trip in the East Kootenays winning their three games. In a 10-5 win over the Creston Valley Thunder Cats, Justice Loewen netted a hat-trick, including the winner, and had four points. Those totals helped him reach 100 career KIJHL points. Will Bell netted four goals and added two assists, and Bryton Morrow set up six goals. Gibson Horne allowed five goals on 17 shots.

After giving up their three-goal lead, Bell scored the winner for the Posse for a 4-3 win over the Fernie Ghostriders. Sam Koester made 30 saves and Morrow had three assists. The Posse closed out their trip with a 7-6 win over Kimberley. Ben Dod’s first goal of the season into an empty net won the game. The Posse trailed 2-1 after the first, then led 5-4 after two periods. Horne stopped 27 shots, while Jalen McRae scored twice and Morrow had a three-point effort and is now on a 12-game point streak with 32 points.

The Kimberley Dynamiters won two of their three games. They opened the weekend with a 3-1 win over the Golden Rockets. After allowing the opening goal to Brayden Bissell, Adam Kisilevich shut the door for the Dynamiters and finished with 28 saves. Brayden Schwartz beat Cole Prelusky at 18:14 of the third period for the winner.

Then the Dynamiters earned a 5-2 win over the Thunder Cats. They trailed 2-0 when Nate Tillmanns cued the comeback with the first of five straight goals. Connor Grainger’s first of the season at 13 minutes of the second period won the game. Tillmanns also had an assist and Luke Davies had three points with Connor Baumbach making 16 saves for his second straight win.

The Dynamiters wrapped up their three-game weekend with a 7-6 loss to the Posse. Kisilevich allowed six goals on 23 shots and Nolan Kelly had a three-points.

The Kelowna Chiefs pocketed a pair of wins over the weekend at home. It started with a 6-3 win over the Beaver Valley Nitehawks. Kaiden Sydenham scored a short-handed winner, then added a second goal to give them a 6-2 lead. Michael Makowsky made 26 saves for the Chiefs, who reached 10 wins. Jake Kessler was recognized before the game for playing in his 100th career KIJHL game. The Chiefs earned a 7-2 win over the Merritt Centennials. The Chiefs’ power-play was humming, going 5-for-11. It earned the win on Evan Murray’s first of the season to give them a 3-0 lead at 11:08 of the second period. Andrik Lygas picked up his second win with a 24-save effort. Murray and Owen Miller each scored twice for Kelowna.

The Beaver Valley Nitehawks split their weekend games. They started with a 6-3 loss in Kelowna. Preston Shumate saved 28 shots and Ryan Neufeld collected two assists. They bounced back with a 6-3 win over the Nelson Leafs. Jager Marshall popped in the winner with his first goal for the Nitehawks 42 seconds into the third period. Landan Uzeloc made 30 saves for his fourth win and Sam Chartres led with three points.

The Revelstoke Grizzlies split their weekend games. They lost 4-2 in Merritt with Austin Seibel stopping 22 of 26 shots. Kyle Dodd scored his seventh goal. On home ice, the Grizzlies poured it on in a 10-3 victory against the Williams Lake Mustangs in front of 900 fans at the Revelstoke Forum. Dayton Abbott scored the winner at 6:07 of the second period. They blew the game open with a four-goal third period. Abbott and Jett Patola each scored twice. Maddox Popke had four points and Seibel stopped 33 shots.
