Obituary of Laurel Anne FOSSEN
Laurel “Rockin’ Granny” Anne FOSSEN
We are sorry to announce that Laurel Anne Fossen, who also went by L A or “Rockin’ Granny,” passed away on Tuesday, January 27th.
Laurel Anne was the 2nd of four children born to Brian and Lynne Smith September 28th, 1951, and lived most of her life in Williams Lake, BC. She married Doug Fossen on December 13th, 1971. They finally moved from Williams Lake to Yellowknife for work in 2002 and then to Sparwood in 2004.
She loved children and the children loved her– she could talk like Donald Duck. She loved her animals and she really enjoyed life, always with a sharp wit, a great sense of humour and an infectious personality, making friends everywhere she went. She called herself a “people person” and she was always good company. She had a genuine heart and was fiercely independent; some called her feisty; no one ever called her dull. She was hampered somewhat, in her final years, coping with dementia; but stayed active playing crib, for as long as she was able to, visiting and touring Sparwood on her scooter whenever she could. Her motto was:
“Live for today because you never know what tomorrow will bring — or what it may take away”
She is survived and mourned by her ever-loving husband, Doug, her sister, Leslie Baker and by the many, many friends that she made along the way.
