Matsuri Music Festival July 14–16 in Kimberley
This July, Kimberley will come alive with the spirit of Japan through the very first Matsuri Music Festival — a three-day cultural celebration filled with music, friendship, tradition, and community connection.
From July 14 to 16, audiences will experience the energy and beauty of authentic Japanese performing arts with special guest artists traveling from Japan, including professional Taiko drummers, Shamisen musicians, and Shinobue flute performers.
The festival will also feature collaborations with local artists and community groups, creating a unique cultural exchange between Japan and Canada.
The festival opens with an exciting ticketed concert at Centre 64 showcasing powerful Taiko drumming, elegant Shamisen music, and the expressive sounds of the Shinobue flute. This special evening performance offers audiences a rare opportunity to experience traditional and contemporary Japanese music performed by internationally respected artists.
On Wednesday, the festival joins the opening ceremony at Cominco Gardens with live performances celebrating culture, nature, and community.
A commemorative Japanese maple tree planting ceremony will symbolize friendship, peace, and the growing cultural connection between Japan and Kimberley.
The festival concludes with a vibrant Gala Concert featuring collaborations between the visiting Japanese performers and local musicians and artists. The evening will also include a dynamic Aikido demonstration, bringing together music, movement, and traditional Japanese spirit in an unforgettable community celebration.
Matsuri Music Festival aims to create meaningful cultural connections, inspire audiences of all ages, and bring the excitement of a Japanese festival atmosphere to the heart of the Canadian Rockies.
