Burger Month raises record $66,675 for Hospice

Twenty restaurants and cafes in Cranbrook and Kimberley teamed up this March for the annual Cranbrook Burger Month.

This year’s event sold over 6600 burgers and raised $66,675 towards the Cranbrook Kimberley Hospice Society’s (CKHS) plans to build a standalone hospice home for the East Kootenay.

“Burger Month has been such a labour of love, and being able to directly impact our community with this initiative for the past six years has been incredible,” said Stephanie Moore, who organized the event for this year.

“I have been lucky enough to be involved since year one, and this year when I got to organize the event, I knew we needed to expand.

“Inviting Kimberley into the event to support the wonderful cause of a Hospice House was an easy decision, and we were so happy to collaborate with the businesses who were willing to step up to the plate. I am so grateful for the sacrifices that the business owners made to join us this year, bringing in the most money of any year previous! Shout out to the wonderful Fenwick & Baker for selling the most burgers-we are so appreciative of your support!”

“We are deeply moved by the generosity of our local restaurants and community members,” said Karolyn Fruncillo, Office Manager for CKHS. “All funds raised from this campaign go directly towards our EK Hospice Home Project. We are also incredibly grateful to the local restaurants who participated by creating mouth-watering feature burgers, and to the residents of Cranbrook, Kimberley, and the surrounding areas who came out to eat and support.

“Thank you, Stephanie, and thank you to everyone who took a bite out of hospice fundraising!”

The East Kootenay Foundation for Health is working closely with the Cranbrook Kimberley Hospice Society in assisting in raising funds for this very important project.

Brenna Hong, Executive Director, East Kootenay Foundation for Health added, “We are incredibly grateful to be part of Burger Month once again. Seeing local restaurants, businesses, and community members come together in support of health care is truly inspiring. The generosity and enthusiasm shown throughout this campaign have made a meaningful impact. What an incredible accomplishment for our community.”
