Cranbrook is B.C.’s Most Active Community
The City of Cranbrook has officially been named B.C.’s Most Active Community, following the seventh edition of the ParticipACTION Community Challenge – a national physical activity and sport initiative encouraging everyone to get active throughout the month of June 2026.
With this announcement, Cranbrook will be awarded a $5,000 prize. The city, through the Recreation and Culture department, will be working closely with the Active Cranbrook Physical Literacy Society to help determine the best use of this funding to benefit the entire community.
“On behalf of council, I want to thank each of our residents who got out and got active in support of the community’s efforts in the ParticipACTION Community Challenge,” said Mayor Wayne Price. “A very special thank you to the amazing work of the Active Cranbrook Physical Literacy Society and all of our other community partners to help rally public participation throughout the month of June.”
On the final Community Impact Report provided by ParticipACTION, a total of 85 organizations, and 228 active groups locally registered and tracked activities through June, with a total of 417 activities, programs and events held. Participating organizations tracked a total of 314,488 participants (not unique) in all of these programs, activities, and events.
The ParticipACTION Community Challenge, presented by Novo Nordisk, is a national physical activity and sport initiative that encourages everyone in Canada to get active throughout June.
The Challenge ultimately recognizes Canada’s Most Active Community and awards it $100,000 to support local physical activity and sport initiatives. The ParticipACTION Community Challenge is proudly funded by the Government of Canada and Novo Nordisk.
