Obituary of Ray Hamilton
Ray Hamilton
Ray came to B.C. from Saskatchewan with his family by covered wagon when he was 5 years old. They bought 27 acres at 7 mile on Kootenay Lake outside of Nelson. The family farmed, raised & sold vegetables, eggs, meat & fruit.
Ray was a happy go lucky, hardworking, kind & generous man & a friend to many.
He married Joan Kerby in 1952 & they started a family & moved to the East Kootenays in 1954. Ray worked at a variety of jobs until he started work at Mohawk Terminals where he worked for 35 years driving for Allied Van Lines. The Molnar family there became lifelong close friends.
Ray loved the outdoors & gardening was a lifelong passion. You would never find a weed in Ray’s garden!
He loved talking & swapping stories with friends & new acquaintances. He acquired lots of those over the years of his driving & travelling!
He was proud of his years with Air Search & Rescue. He received a certificate for Dedication & Professionalism as Safety Officer & member of Sea Zone.
Ray loved all animals & his cat Bambi will miss his daily combings. One of his favourite things was watching the deer with fawns from his chair in the living room.
Ray had friends everywhere he went & will be missed by all.
Ray is survived by his wife Joan, daughters Kathleen (Maurice), Delaine (Ryan), son Dean, sister Diana, 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, numerous nieces & nephews.
Ray was predeceased by his son Randy, grandson Lee, parents & 8 siblings.
As per Ray’s wishes his ashes will go with his mom’s in Nelson in September.
