2026 General Municipal Election set for October 17
Cranbrook voters will head to the polls this fall to choose the next Mayor and council, along with trustees for School District No. 5.
The City of Cranbrook is encouraging residents to make a voting plan now. Whether you vote on General Voting Day, take advantage of an advance poll, or request a mail ballot, there are several convenient ways to have your say in the 2026 General Municipal Election.
General Voting Day will be held on Saturday, October 17, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Laurie Middle School Gymnasium, 1808 2nd Street South. This is the main voting day when electors cast their ballots.
Two advance voting opportunities are also available for voters who would like to vote ahead of General Voting Day:
- Advance Poll 1: Wednesday, October 7, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Senior Citizens Hall, 125-17 Avenue South.
- Advance Poll 2: Wednesday, October 14, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Senior Citizens Hall, 125-17 Avenue South.
If you are not on the list of electors for the 2026 Municipal Election, you can register at the polls when you come to vote. Please bring two pieces of ID; one with name and signature and one with name and civic address.
There are also special voting opportunities available for voters who are admitted patients or long-term care facility residents only on Thursday, October 15:
- Kootenay Street Village (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.)
- Fred Scott Rotary Villa (9:15 to 9:45 a.m.)
- Joseph Creek Village (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.)
- Dr. FW Green Memorial Home (10 to 11:45 a.m.)
- Kootenay Street Care Village (12:15 to 2:30 p.m.)
- East Kootenay Regional Hospital (1 to 4:30 p.m.)
- Joseph Creek Care Village (2 to 5:30 p.m.)
- Mountain View Village (5 to 5:45 p.m.)
If you are planning on voting by mail this election, we ask that you request your mail ballot package right away by emailing Sarann Press, Chief Elections Officer at [email protected] or call 1-866-231-7792. Mail ballot packages will be sent out on or about September 28.
