Obituary of Helen Knowlden

Helen Knowlden

Helen passed away peacefully on the morning of September 14, 2026, at the age of 97. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert (Bob) William Knowlden, in 2023.

Helen lived a vibrant, full life that was rooted in her close family connections and profound respect for nature. In her early years, she worked as a dental assistant in Lethbridge, Alberta. She met Bob during this time, and they were married in1950. They took their children on many camping trips and built a log cabin with their own hands at Nemeiben Lake, Saskatchewan.

After raising four children, Helen developed a keen interest in public affairs and volunteered her time to build a better world. She served on the executive council of the Canadian Institute of International Affairs from 1974-79, was conference chair in 1975 when Saskatoon hosted the United Nations International Women’s Year conference, and had a lifetime membership in the Saskatoon Council of Women. She was also involved in electoral politics.

Having lived in many places in Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia and after making two cross-Canada road trips, Helen and Bob settled in Fairmont Hot Springs, British Columbia, to spend their final years close to family and friends.

Helen was dearly loved by her family and will be deeply missed every day. She is survived by her children Bruce (Suzanne), Bob (Valerie), Lori (Graeme), Lynn (Dale); grandchildren Guillaume (Cassandra), Jesse (Carys), Julia (Alex), Graeme (Karen), Meghann (Tony), Chloe (Jesse), Jasmine (Justas); great-grandchildren Graeme, McKinley and Riley; sister Janet Dench; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends; and beloved family animals.

As Helen requested, no formal funeral or memorial service will be held. We ask you to keep her in your hearts always.
