RCMP trying to piece together case of struck elderly man

Kimberley RCMP are seeking information concerning an elderly male (85) who was found injured on 4th Avenue shortly after 10 a.m., Jan 31.

The subject was walking along 4th Ave. near Rossland Street when he observed a dark vehicle coming towards him; he put his arms up to protect himself and the next thing he knew he was lying in the snow bank.  He sustained bruising to his right forearm.

The injured male had some health issues, which prevented police from learning exactly what happened at the time.

A subject who drove by after the fact, observed a young male with a broken off car mirror in his hands. This may have been the result of collision. Another party claims two young males were initially helping the elderly male. They left without providing any details.

As a result of subsequent media reports on the pedestrian accident, the driver came forward. The driver reported that he clipped the elderly male as he rounded the corner. The male was walking on the road and there were some visibility issues.

The driver reports he stopped, spoke to the man and offered assistance. The pedestrian said he was fine, so the driver departed.

The incident is still under investigation

If you have any information about this incident please contact the Kimberley RCMP at 250 427-4811.
