The City of Fernie is set to rock ‘n’ roll this weekend (March 1-3) as it pays homage to the snows that bless its tourism industry during the 36th annual Griz Days.

Griz Days 2013 promises non-stop fun and laughs, with live music, the annual parade and street party, along with a host of competitions and demonstrations in town and at Fernie Alpine Resort.

The weekend launches with a peek inside a product that might be supported to a healthy margin during Griz Days –free tours of Fernie Brewing Company (call 250-423-7797 to book), starting at 3 p.m.

CP Station Square will once again be the epi-centre for downtown fun. From 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday there will be a street party with music by the Elk Valley’s own Coal Creek Boys. Nearby, the CP Rail Jam, Commit Snow & Skate, will be getting underway.

Saturday is absolutely lousy with Griz Days events, from snowshoe geocaching to the Extreme Griz pancake-eating contest to the 14th Annual Classic Canadian Street Hockey Tournament. Please go to https://www.facebook.com/GrizDays2013 to get the full scoop.

The always-popular annual parade, with the theme Light up the Night, will get underway at 7 p.m. Following the parade, things get rolling again at CP Station Square (beside The Art Station) with another street party and the crowning of Extreme Griz winners.

And nearby the CP Rail Jam finals will be taking place. Capping the evening will be a fireworks show to the Black Eyed Peas’ Light up the Night.

Concluding the weekend, starting at 1 p.m on Sunday at Fernie Alpine Resort, is the hilarious Raging Elk Dummy Downhill Race.
