Two Radium men killed in boating accident

Two Radium Hot Springs residents were killed Oct. 19 in a boating incident on Sam’s Folly Lake.

Today, Oct. 23, the BC Coroners Service confirmed the identities of the two men, both 78.

The deceased are Harry William Kashuba and William Lester Hollingsworth.

According to the Coroners Service, Mr. Kashuba and Mr. Hollingsworth were fishing from a 3.66-metre (12-foot) aluminum skiff on Sam’s Folly Lake – a remote lake about 10 kilometres west of Radium Hot Springs – on the afternoon of Oct. 19 when something went wrong and they ended up in the frigid water.

They were reported missing when they did not return as planned later that day.

Family members attended the area at approximately 8 p.m. and located the truck and observed the boat overturned.

Search of the area proved negative and RCMP contacted Search and Rescue as well as Windermere Fire Department.

The unfortunate ending was that two males had fallen off the boat and drowned. One male was located in the early hours of Oct. 20 near the boat and further search by Search and Rescue from Golden located the second male deceased.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate these deaths.
