April Wells a new candidate for school trustee
April Wells, a retired B.C. teacher, has put her name forward for Area 2 School Trustee.
“I loved my career as a teacher and have followed School Board politics over many years. I worked in Victoria, Powell River, Chetwynd and the Queen Charlotte Islands, so I bring a province-wide knowledge of urban and rural school districts.” said Wells. “I specialized in Learning Assistance and Special Classes and focused on the primary grades.”
April retired here three years ago to be near her daughter and grandson in Kimberley. She welcomes the opportunity to serve her community now that her grandson is attending kindergarten.
“I was concerned that only two persons had been nominated, while three were needed, and friends suggested I run. I would be pleased to put my education and prior board experience to use as School Trustee,” said Wells.
Wells has a wealth of community experience as a board member for a community school, a co-op preschool and Powell River Civil Liberties Association, as well as a union rep, advocate for the disabled, coordinator, editor and Project Manager. Currently she volunteers at the Early Learning Centre, sings with two local choirs and is a keen member of the Kimberley Garden Club.
“Our future depends on how well we educate our young, and every child is precious and important. I will use my set of skills and experience to manage education funds and policies wisely and fairly for the good of all,” said Wells.
