Bingo partnership

Two charities in Cranbrook – Summit Community Services Society and Community Connections Society – are partnering to offer a new bingo schedule at the Rocky Mountain Bingo Hall.

This has been made possible thanks to the generosity of bingo hall owner who is providing the space and East Kootenay MLA Bill Bennett who secured the bingo equipment.

“We were offered this amazing opportunity to run charity bingos to support our not-for-profit activities in the community and could not turn it down,” says Gwen Noble, Executive Director of Community Connections Society.  “It is a large undertaking so we are happy to partner with Summit Community Services Society.”

Cam McCallum, Executive Director of Summit Community Services Society, says their agency is excited about the potential of the partnership.  “Rather than competing with each other for limited resources, we have come together in an innovative way during a difficult financial time.  As not-for-profit agencies, we face an on-going struggle to keep our heads above water.  This initiative will help supplement the valuable work that we are doing in our region.”

The societies have been granted a gaming license to run 208 bingos a year.  Bingo players can now enjoy playing their favourite paper bingo games four evenings a week, Wednesday through Saturday, beginning Wednesday, November 16.  They can also enjoy knowing that they are supporting charity work in the community.

Volunteers are needed to run charity bingos as per BC Gaming regulations.  Anyone who is interested in helping as a volunteer can contact Stacey Unwin at 250 489-3114.
