Forest Crowne elk antlers found
Kimberley RCMP has recovered the long-lost Forest Crowne Subdivision entranceway elk statue horns.
The statue was removed over a year ago due to repeated vandalism, from its location off Highway 95A between Marysville and Kimberley.
Kimberley RCMP detachment Sgt. Laurie Jalbert reported earlier this week that the stolen horns have been recovered.
“In August of 2009, the horns from the bronze elk statue at the entrance to the Forest Crowne Subdivision were removed by unknown persons. On November 14, Kimberley Detachment received a Crimestoppers tip indicating that the stolen horns were located at a property on Thompson Road in the Meadowbrook area,” Jalbert said.
“Police attended and seized the missing elk horns. The horns have yet to be identified by their former owner but it is anticipated that they will be in the near future as there are not many stolen bronze elk horns in the area!
Jalbert said the horns will be returned to the owner United Communities out of Calgary.
Anyone with information with respect to the original theft is invited to contact Crimestoppers or the Kimberley RCMP. The investigation is ongoing into the offence of possession of stolen property.
Meanwhile, Forest Crowne residents are hopeful the find may mean a return of the elk statue.
“We want him back – he was our mascot. He was such a beautiful landmark. It really suited the setting. Everyone in the community was sad to see him go, “said Forest Crowne resident Janis Caldwell-Sawley
“It also served as a good landmark” for travelers, she added.

The landmark became a friendly ‘target’ for special seasonal decorations and residents of the subdivision and surrounding larger community grew to look forward to seeing what would be ‘next’ with the beautiful statue.
