City honours bus driver

Ron Davidson was doing his usual routine as a B.C. Transit bus driver on June 6, conducting his Wal-Mart-Kootenay Loop run.

Turning into the Tamarack Centre parking lot, Davidson spotted something in engorged Joseph Creek that didn’t make sense to him.

“I saw a blue shirt in the water that shouldn’t have been there, so I called 9-1-1 and went to her,” Davidson explained before being honoured by City of Cranbrook Mayor Scott Manjak June 27, for saving the life of 86-year-old Emily Harrer.

Harrer had been walking beside the creek, flowing faster than normal, when she slipped and fell in. She hung onto a branch until Davidson arrived. Aside from being soaked and shaken up, Harrer was fine after her rescue.

“Congratulations and thank you so much for being such a good citizen. We can’t thank you enough,” stated Manjak, while presenting Davidson with an award from the city.
