Fernie Women’s Centre marking Dec. 6

December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada.

This day marks the anniversary of the murders of 14 young women in Montreal. The lives of these women were ended in an act of gender based violence. December 6 is a day to commemorate these women and reflect on violence against women in our society. It is a day to learn more about what you can do and what your community can do to help end violence against women.

The Fernie Women’s Centre is holding an open house from 3-6 p.m. on December 6. Everyone is welcome. Light refreshments will be provided. Local service providers who work in the field of ending violence against women and girls will be on site to meet and chat with the community. It will be a time for knowledge sharing, support, and showing our respect to all women who have experienced violence in their lives.

We are asking the public, if they are able, to bring a spa product. We will use these items to create mini spa packages and give them to women experiencing partner violence throughout the Elk Valley. Please help us create a moment of peacefulness and pampering for the women we serve as they go through a difficult time.

We hope to see you for the open house, December 6 3-6 p.m., here at our new location at 1592-10th Avenue. If you have any questions call the Women’s Centre 250-423-4687.
