New school moving ahead at St. Mary’s
A new 12,000 square foot school is expected to be open for classes in September 2012 on the St. Mary’s Indian Band.
Bids are currently being tendered for the school, announced Band officials today (Nov. 28), which will be constructed in a field adjacent to the St. Mary’s Church.
Chief Cheryl Casimer said she expects construction to begin April 1 (2012) and construction will be completed by Sept. 1.
Funding for the Grades 1 to 8 facility is coming “mainly” from the federal government, Casimer said.
The building is being designed to allow for easy assimilation of additions, such as a gymnasium or room for Grades 9 to 12.
