George Canyon’s Decade of Hits Tour coming to Cranbrook
George Canyon returns to one of his favourite haunts, the Key City Theatre in Cranbrook on October 14 at 8 p.m.
The visit will be part of Canyon’s Decade of Hits tour in support of his new album.
Canyon has had an interesting past 10 years in the music business. In 2004, his wife Jennifer persuaded him to audition for U.S.A. Network’s, ‘Nashville Star.’ Canyon showed up, wowed the worldwide audiences and nearly won the entire contest. The rest is history punctuated by industry accolades, achievements and sustained success.
In the fall of 2010, Canyon performed and spoke to over 20,000 people at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles at a fundraising event. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in the US adopted his 2010 hit single ‘I Believe in Angels,’ as a theme song. Canyon appeared on Good Morning America, to encourage youngsters with his story. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 14.
The song ‘I Believe in Angels’ received a Socan award in November of 2011, for one of the most played songs on Canadian Country radio in 2010.
On Dec. 23, 2011, the Honorable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defense, announced that Canyon was appointed as the first-ever Colonel Commandant of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. Canyon a former air cadet himself, has assumed responsibilities of developing, promoting, and sustaining strong community ties, and acting as a spokesperson and role model.
As George’s charitable work continues, his achievements continue to grow with it. In the past two years, he has been recognized as the most played Canadian artist at Canadian country radio.
His videos garner hundreds of thousands of hits on YouTube and he has won multiple Juno, East Coast Music Awards and Canadian Country Music Awards including ‘Humanitarian of the Year Award’ for his philanthropic endeavours.
To date Canyon has sold over 375,000 albums. In November 2012, he released his highly anticipated Classics album and embarked on a supporting tour throughout much of the country, wrapping up in the spring of 2013. Canyon performed his much-anticipated single ‘Slow Dance,’ on the Canadian Country Music Award show last year to rave reviews.
His latest single ‘Crazy Love’ was released in March of this year, and along with ‘Slow Dance’ will be part of his currently untitled album, which will be released this fall.
When George Canyon is performing live onstage, he is most at home. He has the entire audience in the palm of his hand, and you just can’t help but want to be part of his unique family. Canyon is one of Canada’s favourite country music artists and one of the most successful entertainers in the country today.
George Canyon’s Decade of Hits tour plays the Key City Theatre in Cranbrook on Oct 14 at 8 p.m.
Tickets are on sale June 13 at the Key City Box office.
The show is a presentation of the Kootenay Concert Connection. Sound will be provided by PB Pro Audio and Lighting.
