Josh Dueck to attend Slopes for Hope Kimberley

Local celebrity, and recent X-Games bronze medalist in Mono Ski X, Josh Dueck (pictured above) will be attending the Slopes for Hope opening reception on Friday night, February 17 at the Stemwinder.

Saturday February 18, 2012 is the second annual Slopes for Hope event at the Kimberley Alpine Resort. Last year the event raised over $40,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society, and the volunteer committee hopes to surpass that total this year. With 14 teams already signed up, they are well on their way!

The night before the event teams gather at the Stemwinder to receive their registration packages, hand over any last minute funds, and kick off the event. This year Josh Dueck will be attending registration night to say a few words and to show his award winning film ‘The Freedom Chair.’

“We are so glad that Josh is able to attend Slopes for Hope,” says committee chair Dona Bannenberg, “He is such an inspiration to our local community, and it is wonderful of him to give back and support our event. He will bring his medals and sign autographs for kids.”

Mayor Ron McRae will also be in attendance to do a welcoming speech to the Slopes for Hope participants. He and his team will do the first run the next morning.

Members of the public are welcome to view The Freedom Chair, doors open at 5 p.m., with the show starting at 6 p.m. Admission is by donation.

“I am blown away by Kimberley’s support for Slopes for Hope,” says Tara Kowalchuk, Annual Giving Coordinator for the Canadian Cancer Society. “To see a ski resort and a community get behind an event to this degree is just wonderful. It is going to be a great day and make a big difference in the fight against cancer!”

It is not too late to sign up and be part of Slopes for Hope 2012! To register as an individual or a team, or to support a participant, visit www.slopesforhope.ca . For more information about the event contact Dona Bannenberg at [email protected].
