EKC’s Puck Toss supports Cranbrook Boys and Girls Club
On February 4, East Kootenay Community Credit Union held its community Puck Toss at the Kootenay Ice home game in support of the Cranbrook Boys and Girls Club.
According to Diane Baher, Senior Manager of Community Services, “I’d like to thank everyone who purchased pucks in support of this important community program. Together, we raised $1,939 for the Cranbrook Boys and Girls Club. The club offers programs during the day and after school to provide children and youth the opportunity to experience sport and recreation as well as creative arts, literary, nutrition, health and personal growth. This is certainly a program we at EKC are proud to support.”
Gord Johnson of the Cranbrook Boys and Girls Club added, “We’d like to thank EKC as well as the Kootenay ICE and their many fans who supported the 2012 puck toss. The Cranbrook Club operates out of three separate locations in the community to serve those families who are most in need of our services. While the majority of our programs focus on the 5-13 age groups, we also offer Provincially Licensed Infant/Toddler and Day Care Programs. Community support and partnership are essential to our success. The support of community and funding partners like EKC allow us to focus our programs on those families who are in most need, and to provide fun interactive experiences while enhancing the social and physical needs of kids in the community.”
Since 2003, EKC has raised over $41,000 through its puck tosses at Kootenay ICE games for over 11 local charities and causes for children, including Kidsport, the Kootenay Child Health and Development Centre and the Food for Kids initiative. In 2011,EKC contribute $100,000 back to the communities it serves.
According to Jody Burk, CEO of East Kootenay Community Credit Union, “In addition to providing funds, EKC strives to raise awareness about important programs such as the Cranbrook Boys and Girls Club program. We believe it’s important to invest in our youth and in our community.”
