SD5 Board Highlights

Below is a summary of the main recommendations that were carried at the Feb. 14 Southeast Kootenay School District (School District No. 5) board of trustees’ meeting.

THAT the future New Trustee Orientation Session include a review of the Class Size and Composition Report (Bill 33) by the superintendent.

THAT the Draft Policy School Closure be sent to the Board of Education for approval.

THAT the Board provides a letter of “approval in principle” in support of ‘A Legacy of Learning’ and that a Trustee from each community request support of same from their respective communities. The Legacy of Learning project is an “initiative to gather and make [history of education in area comprising SD5] public through the worldwide web.

THAT the Board ratify the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between [the] Board of Education, SD5 (Southeast Kootenay) and [the] Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Local 4165.

THAT the Board send a letter to all parties involved in the ratification of the MOA between SD5 and CUPE stating the Board’s support for a wage increase for CUPE employees, teachers and exempt staff.

THAT The Board give direction to District Administration to begin the process of investigating feasibility of adding Grades 11 and 12 to Jaffray Elementary Junior Secondary School.

THAT the Board adopt Capital Project Bylaw 115525 for the replacement of three school busses.
