The East Kootenay Volleyball Club (EKVC) is hosting its first Rich Wayling Memorial-Kootenay Cup Volleyball Tournament April 6 and 7, sponsored by the Province of British Columbia.
The EKVC is hosting 23 fifteen and under and 16U boys and girls’ teams from as far away as Red Deer and the Okanagan. The tournament will feature seven local teams, made up of players from Cranbrook, Kimberley, Creston, Jaffray, Sparwood, and Fernie.
The Kootenay Cup Memorial honours the life Rich Wayling, a founding father of the East Kootenay Volleyball Club who was dedicated to the development of volleyball in the Kootenays. Rich was a board member and coached every age group of both genders over the past 14 years for EKVC. He was passionate about volleyball and this tournament is in memory of his enthusiasm and dedication to volleyball.
Games will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, and 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. They will be held at the gyms of College of the Rockies, Parkland Middle School and Mt. Baker Secondary School – all in Cranbrook.
