Virtuoso pianist performing in Fernie April 25
Virtuoso pianist Kevin Ayesh, from North Carolina, will perform in Fernie on Saturday, April 25.
Hosted by the 88 Keys Grand Piano Society, Ayesh will perform works by Brahms, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff and more.
“Getting Kevin Ayesh to Fernie is a real treat,” commented organizer Sylvia Elias. “Dr. Ayesh is in high demand as a performer, and we’re pleased he’s travelling all the way here to play.”
Ayesh heads up the music department at Blue Ridge Community College in North Carolina. In addition to a bachelor of music, he holds master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Maryland. He has performed all across the U.S., playing as many as 75 recitals a season before large and diverse crowds. He is also an adjudicator and clinician.
“Fernie’s location in the Rockies is a huge asset,” added Elias. “A pianist like Kevin Ayesh is willing to travel a long way in order to see some of the beauty we see every day. Small places like Fernie can draw a big name because of where we are.”
Concertgoers will enjoy an evening of diverse music. “We also ask our performers to tell stories, provide some background about the music they are performing,” Elias noted. “People have loved this in the past. They learn, they listen, and they come to truly love the music.”
The concert takes place at 7 p.m. at Mountainside Church on Saturday, April 25. Tickets are at the door, $18 for adults, $15 for youth and seniors, and free for children 12 and under.
