Bear sightings in Ridgemont in Fernie

Bear sightings have been reported on Ridgemont Lane and Ridgemont Crescent over the weekend, Elk Valley Bear Aware (EVBA) reported this morning (July 6).

Please keep garbage indoors until collection day (tomorrow) and secure all other attractants (pet food, dirty barbecues etc.)

Complying with local bylaws, keeping garbage indoors and securing attractants will benefit all of us an our wildlife. Thanks for your attention to this matter and encourage your neighbours, family, friends and visitors to do the same.

Also reported by EVBA on Friday, July 3.  A bear was seen by a mountain biker at the top of Red Sonja Trail that morning.  The biker chose to turn around and ride Swine flu instead. Thank you for helping prevent human/wildlife conflict.

Make noise to warn bears of your presence and avoid surprising them at close range and always leave the bear an escape route.

There was also a July 3 report of grizzly bear sightings in the last few days on Lazy Lizard Trail in Fernie, a popular family trail.
