World Harmony stops in Fernie

Saturday morning (May 5) the World Harmony runners stopped at Fernie City Hall to be greeted by Mayor Mary Giuliano and Councillor Joni Krats.  After a short presentation of welcome by Mayor Giuliano the group was accompanied by the vintage Studebaker fire truck driven by Lieutenant Dave Kurschenska along Second Avenue to 13th Street and down to Maiden Lake.

The members of this group were international with some coming from Canada, Ukraine and Slovakia. The run has been happening for 25 years in 125 countries and has been sanctioned by the likes of Mother Teresa, Pope John Paul II, Nelson Mandela and Bishop Desmond Tutu.  This organization is not affiliated with any corporation or business; each runner finances their own costs; they believe that if they can touch one person with their passion for harmony and peace the run will have been worth it.

Several local runners accompanied them along the route.  The goal of the run is to pass the message of peace and harmony in the world, they believe this can only be accomplished by beginning with  each  individual person.
