Anne Doreen MARTIN
Anne Doreen Martin died peacefully at the age of 79, on April 20, 2023 at the Elk Valley Hospital in Fernie, B.C., surrounded by her three children. She was born May 26th, 1943 to Dora and Joseph Caughell in Carberry, Manitoba.
Anne was predeceased by her husband of 30 years, Werner Martin in 1995, her partner of 11 years, Bud Creasy in 2012, 5 brothers, 2 sisters, granddaughter Taya, and her favorite puppy Princess. She is survived by her children Gaby (Bert), Cam (Teresa), Frank (Mickey), and Chris; grandchildren, Bridget, Dwayne, Donald (Amanda), Christian, Melissa (Cody), Landon, Jade (Andrew), Austin (Jenny), and Sydney; great grandchildren, Joshua, Patrick, Jayden, Bryson, Emery, Beau, Nathan, and Rosalie; along with 26 foster children over her 10+ years of service in the foster care system.
Anne started her career as a caregiver at a Seniors Home in Manitoba. Married and started her family there. The family then moved to Hosmer, B.C. in 1969. There they purchased and ran the Hosmer Hilton until they moved to Sparwood in 1975. Anne then volunteered her time at the local schools, was a member of the Lions Club, and was a Brownie Leader (Brown Owl). Anne then bought the local restaurant, “The Wapiti Inn”, renaming it “The Hot Spot”. When she was not cooking for the community, she could be found winning a game of crib, or dice, doting over her grandchildren, completing a new puzzle, or elbow deep in her gardens, just to name a few.
Her funeral service will be held on April 29th at the Riverside Cemetery at 11:00am. Her celebration of life will take place at the Seniors Drop-in Center on April 30, 2023 at 11:00 am.
The Martin family would like to thank Dr. Mah, Dr. Rohn, and Dr. Bentley and the entire staff at the Elk Valley Hospital in Fernie, for the patient and empathetic care given to Anne. Anne said, that one of her life goals was to aggravate people, and you all took that in stride and the family cannot express enough appreciation for that.
In lieu of flowers, donations my be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
