Obituary of John Blake Lund

John Blake Lund

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John, who died peacefully on 20 September 2026 at the age of 64 in Cranbrook, BC.

John was known as a very polite, gentle, and kind man who loved nature and was especially sensitive to the welfare and safety of children and animals. In his earlier years, John enjoyed carpentry, having worked in construction, and excelled at building furniture.

In his twenties, John was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Though this severe brain disorder brought profound challenges and difficult battles and altered the course of his life, it never defined the core of who he truly was. John carried on with immense courage and resilience. He found moments of joy in simple pleasures, such as listening to his favorite music and spending time in nature. He touched the lives of those around him with his gentle kindness.

Our family is profoundly grateful to the dedicated staff of Interior Health Home Support Nursing and Community Health Workers, as well as Cranbrook Hospice and Kootenay Roots Homecare Ltd. Special thanks to Brenda Huff and the community members who offered compassionate support and care over the years.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Helen Lund; his brothers, Peter E. Lund and David Lund; his sisters, Mary Lund and Marion Sandeski; and his nephews, Wayne Ebel and Adam Sandeski.

He is survived by his sisters, Irene Lund and Jane Haverko, as well as several nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to the Canadian Mental Health Association to support ongoing research, family education, and community mental health advocacy, or to East Kootenay Salvation Army to help support those who live a life less fortunate.
