Obituary of Mary Theresa Stella Macdonald

Mary Theresa Stella Macdonald

April 7, 1938 ~ November 18, 2022 (age 84)

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Mary Theresa Stella Macdonald, a.k.a. Theresa, on Friday, November 18th at the age of 84 years. Theresa was born April 7, 1938 in Chichester, QC to parents Cecil and Virtue (O’Brien) Venne.

Theresa was raised in Haileybury, ON by her great aunts and her grandmother following the death of her mother when she was only 7 years old. As a young woman, Theresa was called into Nursing, a career that spanned 45 years. As a caregiver, she served her calling throughout the rest of her life, always asking “How can I help?”

Theresa lived her Catholic faith every day, always seeking to find the good in others. She lived by the motto, “What would Jesus do?”, and it served her well.

Theresa was a talented artist, played tennis in her younger years, was a fabulous cook, and while living in PEI owned and operated “Theresa’s Bakery”, a local favorite. She moved from one end of Canada to the other because of her husband’s nomadic lifestyle, and eventually ended up living in Western Canada. Theresa loved nature, happily watching the deer and the birds, and any other creatures that happened by. Above all else, Theresa was devoted to her family and loved them dearly.

Despite living with Alzheimer’s for 14 years, Theresa maintained her strong faith, her quick wit, and her great sense of humour. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.

Theresa was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Donald Macdonald, her parents, sisters Cecilia, Helen and Bernadine, brothers Edward, Dennis and Wayne. She is survived by her children: John (Carolina), Mary Jane, and Andrew; grandchildren Alex, Nadia, Andi, Alicia, and Declan; great grandchildren Anthony and Lincoln, and her youngest sister Rose Ann Forester.
