Out of the Box: A Dumpster Art Project artists announced
The City of Fernie along with the Beautification Committee is pleased to announce the artists chosen for the ‘Out of the Box: A Dumpster Art Project.’
Out of the Box is a public art initiative by the City of Fernie and in collaboration with Southeast Disposal. Out of the Box is a project in which nine commercial trash dumpsters will be transformed into works of public art by regional artists. After much deliberation the artists chosen are: Kate Middleton, Liam Monahan, The Fernie Academy, Pamm Ciupa, Anna Weston, Laura Nelson, Jacqueline Mann, Aidan Lindsay, and Brina Schenk.
The Out of the Box live painting event will take place on Sunday July 6 at Station Square in downtown Fernie. Join the nine artists to watch their artistic vision come to life, and vote for your favorite dumpster! A cash prize of $500 for People’s Choice (as determined by public voting) has been donated by The Fernie & District Arts Council. There will also be a ‘Community Canvas’ where anyone can pick a square and paint their own public art contribution. Once completed the dumpsters will be placed strategically around Victoria Avenue as well as the Highway 3 corridor.
Out of the Box is intended as a way for our regional art community to bring beauty and creativity to a seemingly mundane item like a trash dumpster. Project facilitation is provided by the Fernie & District Arts Council and a volunteer committee. The commercial dumpsters have been generously donated by Southeast Disposal.
