Life, Above All (South Africa/Germany, Sotho and French with English subtitles) is a film about a little South African girl with an unimaginably big heart who endures her family’s burdens with unrelenting courage and unending loyalty. With two younger siblings, an absent alcoholic stepfather, and a mother who appears to be ill with grief after losing her infant daughter, Chanda becomes the family’s pillar of strength.

The date and time of the prep class will be determined once registration is complete. Potential projects are endless but can include a new hobo bag from cargo pants, a blanket from wool sweaters, or a patchwork obi belt! Participants must bring a working sewing machine as well as a basic sewing kit. Course is designed for any skill level.

Letterpress printing has become an artisan trade with a unique aesthetic and tactile appeal. The printing process used in letterpress printing has remained virtually unchanged in 500 years. Because it is the only relief printing process, the product has a three dimensional, tactile quality that modern digital presses cannot achieve. At this workshop Michael Hepher will teach you how to pick, set, and print with traditional lead type on a 100 year old Chandler & Price press. The end result will be a small printed product like a broadsheet, poem, or paper ephemera that you can take home.

DECK stars Cliv, a meticulous single parent of two who has been forced to reassess his future after taking losses in the recession. He embraces a new start in a small town but his attempts at self-sufficiency are high-jacked by a bad house buy and he is forced to try his hand at home improvement. Opera from the Masters
Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin
Thursday, November 17 at 7 p.m. at The Arts Station – Entrance by donation
Eugene Onegin is a well-known example of lyric opera; the libretto very closely follows Pushkin’s original, retaining much of his poetry, to which Tchaikovsky adds music of a dramatic nature. The story concerns a selfish hero who lives to regret his blasé rejection of a young woman’s love and his careless incitement of a fatal duel with his best friend.
Rossini’s Barber of Seville (Il Barbiere di Siviglia)
Thursday, December 15 at 7 p.m. at The Arts Station – Entrance by donation
Though its premiere was an infamous flop, The Barber of Seville has become a standard of comic opera repertory.
Irrepressible Figaro, town barber and jack-of-all-trades, learns that dashing Count Almaviva loves the young, rich and beautiful Rosina, the ward and intended wife of strict Dr. Bartolo. Rosina is equally smitten with the count, whom she has never met, and tosses him a love note from her balcony. Figaro gleefully masterminds an elopement, employing a series of disguises and ruses that bring the lovers together in the nick of time.
