Steel Magnolias coming to Arts Station

Move over Hollywood! This cast of six women are proving that they are ‘as delicate as flowers but as touch as nails’ in their performance of Steel Magnolias!

Starring six women from Fernie and directed by theatre professional extraordinaire Denise Baughan, Steel Magnolias is running April 18- 20 at The Arts Station.

Denise chose to produce Steel Magnolias for The Arts Station’s spring play because it centers around the strength of the community and the bonds of friendship, themes that she feels tie into Fernie’s history and past.

Audiences will remember the blockbuster Hollywood film Steel Magnolias featuring an all-star cast including Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine and Julia Roberts. Steel Magnolias was originally written for the stage and The Art Station will return Magnolias to its roots using the original script, produced in 1987 by Robert Harling. Come see The Arts Station theatre as you have never seen it before, completely transformed to a 1980s beauty parlor!

Steel Magnolias is a comedy/drama about the bond between a group of southern women in northwest Louisiana, USA. The action centers on Truvy’s beauty parlour and the women who gather there. The story begins on the morning of Shelby’s wedding and covers the events over the next three years, the ups and downs of life and the bonds of friendship that see us through it all. Steel Magnolias will make you laugh and cry with sharp, funny dialogue the play builds to a conclusion that is deeply moving.

Tickets are available at The Arts Station, at the door, and online (steelmagnoliasfernie.eventbrite.com).

Show time will be 7 p.m. each night.
