Trust help spurs Rent to East Kootenay

After a successful run of the production of Rent at the Capitol Theatre in Nelson in March, Elephant Mountain Music Theatre is honoured to receive a Columbia Basin Trust grant to tour the show in the East Kootenay.

Based out of Nelson, EMMT strives to bring major productions to local stages with local talent.

Jonathan Larson’s Rent is a rock musical loosely based on Puccini’s opera La boheme. Rent follows a year in the life of eight friends in 1989 New York City. They are dealing with poverty, addiction, and harsh personal truths at the height of the AIDS epidemic.

Artistic directors for this production include Kevin Armstrong and Laura Johnson. Our ensemble includes a cast of 14 local singers and actors, plus a five-piece rock band.

The show’s performances are as follows:

November 13 – Prince Charles Theatre in Creston, 7:30 p.m.

November 14 – Key City Theatre in Cranbrook, 7:30 p.m
.

November 15 – David Thompson Secondary School Theatre in Invermere, 7:30 p.m.

November 16 – Golden Civic Centre in Golden, 2:30 p.m.
