Rural property taxes due July 4

Rural East Kootenay taxpayers are being reminded by the provincial government that their property taxes are due by July 4 (two days ago).

Fearing impacts from the now legislated-back-to-work postal workers’ strike, the Ministry of Finance issued a press release noting that B.C.’s 397,000 rural property owners still had to get their tax payments in on time or they will be assessed the regular penalties and interest charges.

In addition, applications for homeowner grants and renewals for property tax deferment must also be completed by July 4.
Payment options available to rural property owners include: In person at most banks and credit unions; In person or via courier to local Service BC Centres; and Internet or telephone banking through most financial institutions.

Rural property owners who have not received a tax notice by mid-June should contact their local Service BC Centre listed in the blue pages of the telephone directory.

Rural Cranbrook and Kimberley taxpayers can pay their taxes at Service BC, 100 Cranbrook Street North, Cranbrook, B.C. (V1C 3P9).

Columbia Valley taxpayers at Service BC, 625-4th Street, Box 625, Invermere, B.C. (V0A 1K0). Elk Valley taxpayers at Service BC, 401-4th Avenue, Box 1769, Fernie, B.C. (V0B 1M0).

Property owners can also contact the Surveyor of Taxes office at (250) 387-0555 (toll-free through Enquiry BC at 1 800 663-7867) or by email at: [email protected]

Urban property owners should contact their local municipality to determine when their property taxes are due.
