Water service restored
The City of Cranbrook reports that water service was restored around 6 p.m. last evening to the 11th Street South area between 5th Avenue and 7th Avenue after a water main break.
“Crews were able to successfully replace a section of pipe, which had a metre long horizontal gash down the length of it. Public works is currently backfilling the hole, will place barricades around the site and will allow for local traffic tonight. PW may return to the site Saturday to complete the backfill if needed,” reported city communications officer Chris Zettel.
“Residents in the immediate area will experience dirty water for the next little while. It is not considered a health risk. Residents are advised to run their cold water tap until the water runs clear,” he said.

Perhaps a black cat crossed the street?
City of Cranbrook Public Works is currently excavating a section of 11th Street South between 5th Avenue and 7th Avenue, after a serious water main break this morning (Friday, Jan. 13).
According to city officials it appears the properties affected are those that have frontage immediately onto 11th Street South. No specific numbers are currently available.
“Right now crews are digging to determine exactly where the breakage is. But Joe McGowan is advising me that crews are encountering a very soupy mess, as they excavate. We should have another update on the break in the next couple of hours. We are also getting calls from several areas complaining of dirty water,” reported city communications officer Chris Zettel.
“I have received no confirmation that this is a health issue. We are advising the public to simply run their cold water tap until the water runs clear,” he advised.
