Contract awarded for local roads resurfacing projects

The provincial government today awarded Interoute Construction Ltd. (DBA Selkirk Paving of Crescent Valley) a $4.7 million contract to resurface various roads in the East Kootenay.

Included in the project:

·10.9-km resurfacing on Highway 3/93 from Haha Creek Road to Wardner Bridge;

·2.4-km resurfacing on Highway 95A from Highway 3 to Echo Field Road;

·2-km resurfacing along Jaffray-Baynes Lake Road;

·3.8-km resurfacing along Kikomun-Newgate Road; and

·5.4-km resurfacing along Wardner-Fort Steele Road – mostly toward the Wardner end (pictured).

This project will see improvement to almost 25 kilometres of road in and around the Cranbrook area, including important side roads that will benefit local area traffic. Work is scheduled to begin this summer and finish by September.

“These road repairs and resurfacing will result in a smoother driving surface and a higher level of safety,” said Kootenay East MLA Bill Bennett. “This work will make travelling on this section safer and more reliable for users, and will improve the conditions for movement of goods and services.”
