Cranbrook Fire pleased to be part of Kate’s journey

Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services (CFES) is co hosting a barbecue today (Friday, June 19)  with Royale Lepage East Kootenay Realty to raise funds for The Long Way Home.

The barbecue begins at noon in front of Royal Lepage’s 25-10th Avenue office (across from city hall).

Kate MacEachern and her crew will be coming into town on Saturday, June 20 sometime in the afternoon. (Depends on how the walk goes.)

“We will hopefully get a crew out to escort Kate into town including a antique fire engine, RCMP, EHS and several veterans suffering from PTSD. Kate and her crew will be attending the steak dinner at the Legion,” related CFES member Murray Robertson.

Kate will have a day off from walking on Sunday and will be back on the road to Moyie Monday morning.

She was welcomed in Jaffray last night.

MacEachern has been marching from Nipiwan, Saskatchewan since May 1.  She is on her way to Chilliwack, the home of the Wounded Warriors Weekend for 2015.

Along her route, Kate has been creating dialogue around PTSD, sharing her message that there are supports and tools to help one heal, there is hope!  You can follow her journey on her website listed below.

She has also been raising funds through donations and the sales of tee shirts with the goal of helping to pair veterans, soldiers and first responders with service dogs or supporting equine therapy treatment.

Rebecca, Emily (Emily suffers from PTSD) and Lisa of The N.A.S.H. Project (Neglected Animals Serving Humanity) have joined Kate. During the journey, they discuss dog and equine therapy with those who want to know more.

Together this band of dedicated women is determined to create meaningful and long lasting dialogue around PTSD and remove the stigma. Through their fundraising efforts they intend to impact the lives of first responders, serving soldiers and veterans and their families.

The Long Way Home Inc. is a registered Non profit in Nova Scotia.

Proceeds from The Long Way Home will go to the wounded warriors weekend and service clubs that support service animals to assist PTSD patients.  Several of these clubs are the NASH project and Paws for Thought.
