District hosting Kitchen Table Conversation for OCP

The District of Sparwood is inviting residents to their kitchen table to talk about the future of Sparwood on Tuesday, September 24, from 6 – 8 p.m. This event will take place at the Main District Office, 136 Spruce Avenue.

“We are fortunate to live in a community where people support one another and take pride in their homes and businesses.  As we move forward in updating our Official Community Plan (OCP), we invite everyone to come and meet with us and discuss the future of Sparwood. Imagine Sparwood in 2035!” says Lois Halko, Mayor of Sparwood.

The district wants to hear about what must happen to make Sparwood an even better place to be born, grow up, and grow old.

The District of Sparwood is currently updating its OCP, which will direct future land use decisions in town. The OCP will respond to community values and circumstances, such as population growth, housing, economic development, protection of environmentally sensitive areas, and it will set targets for the reduction of greenhouse gases.

SparwoodTHActive community involvement is essential to create an OCP that reflects citizens’ concerns, ideas, and values.

The community is invited to help set this direction for the community’s future by joining us for a relaxed and meaningful discussion about how we can make Sparwood an even better community.

This Kitchen Table Conversation will happen on September 24, at the District Municipal Office from 6 – 8 p.m.

Alternatively, the public can pick up a free kit from the District Office with all the tools required to host a Kitchen Table Conversation Party at a time and place that is suitable for them. The kit will help hosts to organize and lead a discussion with friends and neighbours about issues that matter to them.

By providing the option to join us at our Kitchen Table or by hosting their own discussion, the district hopes to receive input from as many members of the community as possible.
