Emergency services gather to promo preparedness
By Bram Rossman
Emergencies can happen at any time and don’t usually come with much warning. The question is, are you prepared?
Emergency service agencies from around the Columbia Valley gathered in Windermere on May 2 for an open house and information session.
Representatives from the RCMP, BC Ambulance, Search and Rescue, emergency social services, BC Wildfire Management Branch as well as members of the Windermere, Panorama and Invermere fire departments, were on hand.
Located on the Windermere Fire Hall and Columbia Valley Search and Rescue grounds, a number of booths were set up to provide valley residents with information about the services each organization provides.
A key focus was on helping residents prepare themselves/families and their homes/properties in the event of a large-scale disaster or emergency. Examples could include forest fires, floods, landslides or similar catastrophic events —some of which the valley has already experienced.
