Gearing Up for Sam Steele Days 2015
The Sam Steele Society volunteers and staff have been busy working with many different groups and organizations to deliver a fun filled festival in June for our citizens and visitors.
It all begins with the introduction of the 2015 Sweetheart Youth Ambassador candidates and the unveiling of the 2015 Sam Steele Days button at the Ambassador Banquet & Ball, April 25 at the Colombo Lodge. This is a special year for the Youth Ambassador Program as they mark their 50-year milestone appropriately named 50 Years of Heart.
“Our goal has always been to keep our festival open to everyone with nominal to no fees for the public” states Sam Steele Society Chair Christy Wheeldon.
The festival is funded through a combination of sponsorship, grants and fees from major event partners and from the proceeds of our evening entertainment and beverage gardens. Anyone can submit an idea for an event/activity.
When considering a submission, the committee is guided by the following criteria:
It must enhance the festival and be available to everyone.
It must have the volunteers/staff to deliver the proposed event successfully.
It must be financially self-sustaining without causing undo strain on existing events.
Each year special events/projects are part of the festival such as: The community Time Capsule, the Steele Scouts and the Wheels of Steele in 2014 as part of the 50th Sam Steele Days festival celebration.
We thank all those involved who generously gave their time and shared their expertise to deliver a positive experience by everyone who attended. This June 18-21 will also deliver a fantastic assortment of events and activities unlike any other community festival!
