Policing priorities established for Elkford

District of Elkford council March 14 discussed policing priorities with S/Sgt. Lorne Craig, Elk Valley RCMP Detachment Commander and Cpl. Bob Wright, of Elkford Detachment.

S/Sgt. Craig reported that the top three priorities based on provincial policing priorities are: family violence, road safety and crime reduction.

In addition, council identified the following priorities for Elkford: road safety; distracted driving; speeding; exceeding passenger capacity.

The discussion also focused on the Designated Driver program and RCMP presence during special events. The delegates advised that the Elk Valley Detachment will be bringing a truck simulating a rollover to Elkford Secondary School.

S/Sgt. Craig advised council that policing priorities will be set for a three-year period.
