Saskatoon man killed in Fairmont crash

A 79-year-old man from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan was killed in a two-vehicle crash at Fairmont Hot Springs yesterday (Sept. 9).

At 4:27 p.m. the 79-year-old man and a 45-year-old male also from Saskatoon were westbound on Fairmont Creek Road south of Fairmont in a Toyota Avalon.

Columbia Valley RCMP report the AvalonĀ stopped at the sign where Fairmont Creek Road intersects with Highway 93/95 but then the driver failed to yield to a northbound 1995 Honda Accord driven by a 29-year-old female from Creston.

The Honda was unable to stop and t-boned the driver’s side door of the Avalon, sending it across the highway where it then struck a large sign.

All involved were taken to Invermere and District Hospital where the 79-year-old male was pronounced deceased.

BC ambulance, Fairmont Hot Springs Fire Department and RCMP attended the scene and Highway 93/95 was closed and traffic detoured during the investigation.

RCMP are now assisting the BC Coroners service in the investigation.
