SD5 Board Notes

The following is a summary of board motions carried during the November 10 School District No. 5 (SD5) board meeting in Cranbrook.

MOTIONS CARRIED

Advocacy

– That the Board develops an ad hoc committee to discuss Dress Code/Sports Attire.

– That the Board tentatively approves the Field Trip to Nicaragua for Jaffray Elementary Junior Secondary School in April, 2016.

Policy

– That the Board allow three readings of revising Policy 1.2 Procedural Bylaw* for the Public Board Meeting opening to acknowledge that we are on the traditional Lands of the Ktunaxa people.

– The revised Policy 1.2 Procedural Bylaw be sent to the Board of Education for approval.

Finance/Operations/Personnel

– That the Board recommends submitting our Capital Plan with our same top four priority schools.

General

– That the Board discuss a cost-sharing partnership with the City of Cranbrook to install a Muriel Baxter Elementary School plaque at the school site in honour of Muriel Baxter.

– That the Board allows three readings of Capital Project Bylaw* – Project No. 126927 Annual Facility Grant – Laurie Middle School.

– That the Board approves Capital Project Bylaw – Project No. 126927 Annual Facility Grant – Laurie Middle School in the amount of $434,900.

– That the Board allows three readings of Capital Project Bylaw* – Project No. 126928 Annual Facility Grant – Mount Baker Secondary School.

– That the Board approves Capital Project Bylaw – Project No. 126928 Annual Facility Grant – Mount Baker Secondary School in the amount of 368,000.

– That the Board allows three readings of Capital Project Bylaw* – Project No. XXXXXX** Annual Facility Grant – Various Elementary Schools HVAC.

– That the Board approves Capital Project Bylaw – Project No. No. XXXXXX** Annual Facility Grant – Various Elementary Schools HVAC in the amount of $143,750.

– That the Board approves as amended the 2015/2016 Annual School Calendar as amended and hold over for thirty days’ public input.

* Legislation requires three readings of a bylaw to be completed in order for it to carry. All three readings may take place at the same meeting upon unanimous consent of the Board.
