Three running in Canal Flats by-election
The Village of Canal Flats is heading to a March 30 by-election.
Village Mayor Ute Juras informed the Regional District of East Kootenay board of directors March 1 that three candidates have come forward
Voters will have a choice between Linda Magee, Dean Midyette or Roy Webb.
Juras said she is looking forward to having a good by-election.
“The term is for 20 months which is just over half of what a regular term would be. This is a great opportunity for someone to get their feet wet if you have been toying with the idea of going into municipal politics,” Juras stated in the Canal Flats Community Newsletter.
The by-election is necessary because Coun. Evence Blanchard, elected in November 2011, announced Dec. 3 (2012) he was leaving office.
