US backcountry skier killed in avalanche near Golden

On January 6, approximately 3:39 p.m. Golden/Field RCMP received a report on an avalanche in Molars Bowl, just west of Golden.

It was reported that a group of backcountry skiers were caught in the avalanche and one person buried.  The person was dug out by members of the ski party and CPR was started.

Golden Search and Rescue attended the avalanche site by helicopter and extracted the buried skier. He was flown directly to Golden General Hospital where doctors continued to work on him. The skier ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

Investigation revealed the ski party was from the United States. RCMP will not be releasing any names pending next of kin notification.
