Woman stabbed in attempted robbery

A female employee of the East Kootenay Credit Union in Elkford was stabbed Saturday morning during an attempted armed robbery.

Elkford RCMPElk Valley RCMP responded to a report of an attempted armed robbery at about 9 a.m. May 31.

“While an employee (stabbing victim) was opening up for business for the day, a male suspect forced his way into the credit union. A struggle ensued at the door between the employee and the suspect. The suspect eventually overpowered the victim. During the struggle, the victim sustained a stab wound to her leg,” Elk Valley RCMP reported in a press release.

The suspect eventually fled the scene after being told that the victim had no access to any money. No money was taken.

The victim was treated for a non-life threatening injury and was released from the hospital.

Suspect description

White male, approximately 5′ 10″, 160 to 170 pounds, between 40 to 50 years old. Short blonde and grey hair, approx. two days growth of facial hair. He was wearing rounded goggles with dark lenses, black toque, black cloth gloves, medium blue jeans, black footwear, red windbreaker type jacket with white colour seams in the area of the shoulder.

The suspect was also carrying a small greyish backpack similar to the day pack. The suspect was carrying what appeared to be a four inch blade with black handle.
